The Vesacarballo Mills Route
One of Sabucedo’s best-kept treasures is its set of recently restored water mills. The “Ruta dos Muíños” (Mill’s Route) is a trail that follows the course of the river and allows visitors to see these structures, which were the economic engine of the region for decades. Each mill tells a story of communal work and the sustainable use of resources.
The route, refurbished in 2009, is composed of several traditional constructions dating from the 18th to the 20th century, including bridges, canals, and mills. The tour stands out for the beauty of its elements, and each mill tells a story of communal work and sustainable use of resources. Among them is the “Serradoiro do Mestre,” which, in addition to being a flour mill, was also a sawmill, a bread oven, and a chicken coop, earning it the nickname “A Fábrica” (The Factory) among the locals.
Other Traces of History
In addition to the mills, walking through Sabucedo and its surroundings, you can find traditional granaries, fountains, and wash houses that tell us about a way of life linked to the land and the community.
